  77.   Given the importance of large forests that are so necessary for removing CO2 from the air, why does the US Forest Service continue to sell below-cost, subsidized timber from the large, old-growth timber stands in the Pacific Northwest?  Why does the USFS continue its expensive, destructive road-building projects into these ecologically sensitive areas? 
  78.   In 1991 an Ancient Forest Protection Act was reintroduced, by Rep. Jim Jontz, Indiana.  The bill would create an extensive ancient-forest reserve and link fragmented tracts of forest to create wildlife corridors.  It would go a long way to preserving some of this nation's most precious old-growth forests.  (Since our country's founding in 1776, 96 percent of old-growth lands have been cut, only 4% remains and less than half or this is currently protected!) 
  79.   Write to your US representative and ask him to co-sponsor HR 842, the Ancient Forest Protection Act, during 1991!   Write your senators and ask them to support legislation similar to the Jontz bill, for the Senate.  Please write! ***
